New update notification pops up, and LG G6 users be like is that Pie?? Please tell me its Pie??!

Korean OEM LG’s early 2017 release LG G6 came with Android Nougat on board, and was bumped to Oreo a year later. The company’s Pie roadmap conveyed that G6 would be upgraded to the current Android OS sometime in the third quarter of the year.

We’re somewhere in the mid of Q3 already, and until now, other than regular monthly security patches (or minor updates), and leaked Pie beta build nothing else has surfaced. And G6 users, well, they’re counting days literally, for the company’s is putting their tolerance to test considering Q is right around the corner.

Few weeks back, a beta build of Android 9.0 on H870 i.e. the European model of LG G6 was leaked which raised hopes that the stable release should be close. The info came from a G6 user who flashed the leaked build – clubbed with the May security patch – and shared their experience at Reddit.

The redditor also shared some images of UI after installing the leaked build. Hover over the following image and click/tap on the arrow icon for the look and feel of Pie on G6 (keep in mind the stable one could be different though).

But this one being a beta, that too a leaked one, not all would wish to risk the device’s warranty or even get into beta testing. That’s why majority G6 people are still eyeing the official release.

But before that gets kicked in, the OEM has pushed a minor update. Could be a prep up for Pie, but who can say. The new update is once again hitting the European region variants (model H870) of LG G6 with build V20j. Sized about 130MB, the update carries the July security patch.

New OTA on LG G6

While users are eager for Pie, they’are disappointed to receive a regular firmware update instead of the OS one. Anyway, the roll out has just started, which means only some units would have received the OTA by now. Considering the patch is airborne, it’ll take time to hit all units with the notification.

We totally understand your desperation for Pie. That’s why we’re keeping an active track of all related developments, and will surely share as and when we catch hold of something relevant.
