Smartphone makers frequently experiment with UI features in order to come up with something new and interesting to please their users. While doing so, they at times mess up the existing functionalities unintentionally. One such case is now coming to sight regarding Xiaomi’s MIUI.
For over past couple of weeks, a new problem appears to be troubling Xiaomi phone users, wherein device owners (majorly with Redmi units) say the ‘Open with’ window is no more giving the options to open the concerned link with either Google Play, Mi Store or web browser like it usually does.
Basically, the ‘Open with’ pop-up now only throws the ‘Remember my choice’ option without providing any options to actually chose from (as can be seen in the following user shared images).
This bug apparently plagues MIUI in general, because of which Xiaomi users with different Redmi phones (Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi Note 7, Redmi 5 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro to name a few) have been chiming about it across the company’s official help forums.
Take a look at how some of the complainants word the glitch across Mi Community:
My Redmi K20 Pro is not showing the options to select from the box asking “Open with” (Playstore, MI store, Chrome, UC browser, etc.). Pls fix this issue in the next update.
Hey, I’m not able to open play store or Mi apps from a different app. When the ‘open with’ window pop up, I can’t find any apps to work with. I’m using Redmi Note 6 Pro
can anyone tell me how to get back play store and get apps options back?. This problem is only there when I click on links(basically ads) to install any apps or games However it works fine when asked for other things
What’s appeasing is that in between these proliferating complaints, the bug was recently acknowledged by a device team’ member as well as a forums moderator. Both of them informed users that issue has been brought into the devs attention and will be resolved soon.
The issue has been reported to developers and will be solve soon, please try to set default app and then try.

While the issue has been confirmed, there’s no ETA as to be when the bug fix will be released. Though we hope it gets done soon. In the meantime, Nova Launcher users can give uninstalling and then reinstalling the launcher app a try, as that’s what resolved the issue at least for one of those affected.
Needless to say, like always, we’ll be keeping a tab on the matter and will update this story as and when any further development comes to our sight.
