Motorola, which now runs under the banner of Lenovo, released Moto Z2 Force back in 2017. It was presented as the company’s flagship device for the year 2017. Moto Z2 Force runs on Snapdragon 835 processor and comes with Android Nougat out of the box.

The Verizon version of Moto Z2 Force received Android Oreo update by the end of its launch year. The company also promised Android Pie update on the device last year. As per the listed schedule, the device was expected to receive Android Pie update during the fall of this year.

After a long wait, Moto Z2 Force finally started receiving Android Pie update in June with the build number PPX29.159-10. The update also brought a May security patch for users. However, the update was only pushed to Brazilian and Indian users.

Moto Z2 Force Android Pie

Four days back, the company announced Android Pie 9.0 update to the Moto Z2 force for its United States users. The latest update for the device also brought 5G support which is accessible through 5G Moto mod. The new patch has also added the latest June security patch for users.

However, T-Mobile Moto Z2 Force users are a bit fuzzy, as they don’t know whether their device will get the Android Pie 9.0 update or not. Reason being, a T-Mobile staff member informed a user that T-mobile version of Moto Z2 Force would not receive an Android Pie update.

Have a look at the image below, where a T-Mobile staff member put up a message on the official forum that T-Mobile Motorola Moto Z2 Force will not receive the Pie update.

It goes without saying that carriers play a major role when it comes to updates of the device as they go through them. Therefore, a staff member of the T-mobile is dismissing the news of the Android Pie 9.0 update raises a concern that can’t be shunned.

Consequently, the confused Moto Z2 Force T-Mobile owners took to Twitter to express their concerns over the matter and also raised a query at Moto US Twitter handle. Check out a tweet of a user who has expressed concern over this matter.

While responding to one such user query, Motorola US reverted back saying Moto Z2 Force T-Mobile Variant will get the Android Pie. Additionally, they asked the user to shared the source which raised there concern reagarding teh update. Here’s what Motorola US exactly said:

The Moto Z2 Force T-Mobile Variant will still get the Android Pie. May I know where did you get that information?

What about Android 9.0 Pie? While other carriers are pushing the update, has it been cancelled for T-Mobile variants of Moto Z2 Force? Well, at least that’s how it appears.

Here’s hoping T-Mobile comes up with an official statement on the matter to give users clarity on whether the phone will get Android 9.0 Pie. Rest assured, we are keeping a close watch on the matter and will update the story as and when we get more information.

Update 1 (June 27)

Motorola has confirmed Android Pie update on Moto Z2 Force in the US has been cancelled for carriers other than Verizon.

Delivering any Android upgrade is a complex process. For a variety of reasons, some US Moto Z2 Force models will not receive the Android 9 “Pie” update. The Moto Z2 Force model sold by Verizon will receive Pie as it is necessary to enable the 5G Moto Mod. We are committed to providing two years of Android security updates on all Moto Z2 force devices.
