Last month, Asus finally pushed the long awaited Android 9.0 Pie to ZenFone Max Pro series devices. However, the update didn’t leave a good taste in Max Pro M1/M2 users’ mouth. In fact, it was so buggy that it had to be pulled from Max Pro M2 within a week’s time, only to offer a better version.

Pie update wasn’t bug-proof even on ZenFone Max Pro M1 units. Right after the update, problems like Night Light and PUBG HD graphics missing, stock camera set to external storage, Camera2 API not delivered despite promising, misplaced network icon and others were reported by users.

In between all this, it surfaced that Asus didn’t release Android Pie to both models of Max Pro M1. The update was restricted to Indian region devices i.e. model ZB601KL, and ZB602KL users were left gnawing. Sadly, the company didn’t bother to clear the picture while making the announcement.

ZenTalk forum moderator’s confirmation about Pie’s limited rollout on ZenFone Max Pro M1

Finally the wait for ZenFone Max Pro M1 model ZB602KL users is also over now. A new Android Pie update has now been pushed to Max Pro M1 global variants i.e. model ZB602KL, which bears build number 16.2017.1905.053, weighs ~1.50GB and brings in the May security patch along with Pie.

The information about the update came from a ZenTalk forums moderator, and here’s what the update release note states:

1. Android P upgrade
2. Update security patch

The release notes mention this FOTA may take time to reach out to all users. Even users say they haven’t received the update notification yet. Those who manually flashed the update shared the change log according to which, the update has fixed PUBG HD graphics issue and call waiting bug.

Apart from that, as per reports from other users even Night Light is back and screenshot option has been included in the power menu. However, Camera2 API is still nowhere to be seen and so is Digital Wellbeing. Here’s what a user said regarding the update:
