Notch or no notch is a hot debatable topic with mixed yay-nay reaction from smartphone users. Yet OEMs have been actively experimenting with notch shape and placement. Take for example OPPO F9 series which sports a water drop notch and Samsung Galaxy S10 that popularized punch hole design.

In some of our earlier coverages, we highlighted Google’s new policy regarding handling notch related optimizations, and how OEMs like Xiaomi implemented the same by removing their own notch handling mechanism in MIUI, Android Pie onward.

Just like Pocophone F1, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 users have also been complaining about no option to hide the notch. For a quick refresher, Redmi Note 7 is Xiaomi’s this year’s mid ranger device that comes with Android 9.0 Pie and Xiaomi’s own skin MIUI 10 out of the box.

And device users are curious to know when are their units going to get the ability to hide notch. From the company’s official help forum to other online discussion platforms, Redmi Note 7 users have been asking about this everywhere.

Though until now, there wasn’t any confirmation, recently a Device team’s member at Mi Community has informed one of the inquirers that Redmi Note 7 will get the option to hide notch in the upcoming updates. When exactly, that’s still unknown. Though we hope it happens soon.

Here’s what the Device team’s member said:

The same Device team member shared another good news while responding to a user who chimed about no full screen support in certain apps and games, PUBG and COD mobile to name a few. Here’s how some users word the full screen problem:

PUBG and COD Mobile is not run in full-screen but in realme 3 games runs in full-screen but not in Redmi note 7 why

i have set a fullscreen display in my setting, but when i open a certain app, it does not show a fullscreen display, for instance, look at the image i attached, at the top of the screen, there has a blank black page which is at the notch area, supposedly the application display fullscreen mode after i set it in the setting
