OnePlus 7 McLaren Edition seemingly teased by OnePlus China
OnePlus is known for making handful of limited edition variants of their regular phones. They often collaborate with existing brands and/or entities and launch those exclusive models after them.
Starting with OnePlus 5, the Shenzhen based smartphone maker collaborated with Moroccan/French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac to launch the artistic JCC+ limited edition of the phone.
The Chinese OEM released a special Star Wars edition of OnePlus 5T in the same year, as part of their half-yearly lineup refresh.

In 2018, OnePlus joined their force with the mighty Avengers to come up with a slick, Infinity War themed Marvel Avengers edition of OnePlus 6.

The company took a slightly different strategy with the next one. Instead of a franchise or person, they teamed up with McLaren and launched the limited edition McLaren themed OnePlus 6T. As a matter of fact, the OEM also equipped it with upgraded internals.

The beastly McLaren edition of OnePlus 6T comes with a whopping 10 GB of RAM, a McLaren-inspired carbon fiber body, faster charging (Warp Charge 30) and a lot of McLaren themed goodies inside.
While Mobile World Congress 2019 was running, Pete Lau (co-founder of OnePlus) shared an interesting tweet. He posed for a shot with McLaren CEO Zak Brown and tweeted the following:
Partners in constant pursuit of speed

While OnePlus fans tried to decipher the simple-looking sentence and speculate about another partnership with the sports car maker, Pete did not mention a single word about it.
Fast forward the timeline to yesterday (April 10), and whole world was thrilled to see the first image of a black hole in the history of mankind, captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).
Scientists have obtained the first image of a black hole, using Event Horizon Telescope observations of the center of the galaxy M87. The image shows a bright ring formed as light bends in the intense gravity around a black hole that is 6.5 billion times more massive than the Sun pic.twitter.com/AymXilKhKe

Call it a coincidence, but a truckload of leaks about the upcoming OnePlus 7 were surfaced on the same day!
The alleged leak of the OnePlus 7 ‘Pro’ model came from a Weibo user. The phone (model number GM1915) in the picture is running Android 9 with build number 9.5.1 GM31CB.
The image also tells us that the purported Pro model of OnePlus 7 comes with a 6.67″ Super Optic display, Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. The cameras have 48 MP, 16 MP, and 8 MP sensors.
The second image is showing us the Samsung-esque curved screen design.
Furthermore, leakster Ishan Agarwal revealed the tentative model names of the upcoming OnePlus 7 variants.
BTW, I have just got the model numbers of the OnePlus 7 Variants confirmed so here they are:
GM1901,03,05 -> OnePlus 7
GM1911,13,15,17 -> OnePlus 7 Pro
GM1920 -> OnePlus 7 Pro 5G
PS: Still not 100% Sure, maybe for development only.https://t.co/UnInwWs7FI#OnePlus7 #OnePlus7Pro pic.twitter.com/kYvjLyBkLC
— Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) April 9, 2019
In a nutshell:
- OnePlus 7: GM1901, 03, 05
- OnePlus 7 Pro: GM1911, 13, 15, 17
- OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: GM1920
This is indeed a departure from the usual ‘A’ moniker (for example, ‘A6010/A6013’ belongs to OnePlus 6T). Moreover, OnePlus is allegedly going to launch multiple county and/or carrier specific models.

Ishan has also confirmed the release timeframe in May, although exact date is not known yet. The marketing tagline should be “Go Beyond Speed” (subject to change).
I'm pretty sure you all will soon see OP7 leaks flooding on your timelines since I can confirm that the launch is in May. It seems like the the name of the more expensive smartphone is indeed gonna be OnePlus 7 Pro and tagline will be "Go Beyond Speed". Although, it may change. pic.twitter.com/a42yjY0RY0

Now OnePlus China has posted an interesting post via Weibo, combining both the aspects – the black hole & the upcoming phone from the OEM.
Notice the curved screen design? Isn’t it exactly same as the one leaked earlier?
The image itself is pretty much inspired from the depicted version of the black hole, with a similar color composition. The accompanying text is fascinating as well.
Irresistible full speed gravitation. The world’s first black hole Photo
