OnePlus 6T on Verizon having issues receiving SMS/MMS, but there’s a fix
OnePlus 6T is the first OnePlus device that works on the Verizon Wireless network in the US. While it’s definitely good news for Verizon subscribers, there’s a known limitation: the flagship device isn’t compatible with Verizon’s old CDMA network. That’s, however, not a very big deal because it only affects if you are in rural areas.
So far so good. Many Verizon subscribers actually went ahead and purchased a OnePlus 6T. However, their experience has been less than stellar so far. The biggest problem they are currently facing is with incoming texts (or SMS) and MMS. A significant number of users have confirmed their device fails to receive messages.
Here are some reports:
I have the 6T unlocked purchased directly from one plus…everything works except for incoming sms and mms on Verizon…Spent almost 2 hrs with support and no go. tried sim card in two other phones with no issues. Incoming SMS and MMS problems on Verizon continue
What is odd is that outgoing is issue free. Calls are fine incoming and outgoing. Email comes and goes…all data works as expected. The only #&@!@*! is incoming sms!
I am having same issue. No SMS/MMS. Everything else is fine. Thought it may have been an iMessage issue but coming here and seeing this has me convinced its not an iPhone issue
For its part, OnePlus is aware of the issue. One of the company’s Bug Hunters said this past weekend that they are on it, asking affected users to share some details meanwhile.
We are working on this issue, the users who has the issue please send me a PM about your phone’s IMEI, you can find it inputting ” *#06# “. We will try to fix it ASAP
And just minutes ago, a OnePlus staff member shared the following useful information:
According to VZW’s information . Users need to reactivate on www.verizonwireless.com . more detail as below:
Scenario: If a user takes an ALREADY ACTIVE VERIZON SIM from his/her Phone and inserts it in the brand new OnePlus 6T then to ensure CDMA-Less feature is activated in their account please have user follow this instruction:
For current VZ active customers:
To activate/use an existing number on a new BYOD device, please ensure to log in to your account on www.verizonwireless.com> My Verizon > My Device > Activate or Switch Device and follow the instructions.
If not working, please PM me about your device version (global version or TMO version) and device IMEI.
Indeed, some users have separately confirmed they got the ‘CDMA-Less feature’ activated for their phone and incoming SMS and MMS started working again.
A very informative discussion on this matter is going on here – just in case you are the curious kind.
So there you go. If you are a OnePlus 6T user on Verizon, and are facing this incoming text related problem, now you know what to do. In case the issue persists, do let us know in comments below.
PS: We’ve created a list of issue currently plaguing the OnePlus 6T, you can take a look at it by heading here.
