Here’s how to fix Google Play Store error code 505 issue
We recently discussed what all steps you can take if you can’t download apps from the Google Play Store. And now, for the past few days, we are seeing reports that installing the latest update for the Google app is resulting in Error code 505 for many.
Hello. I’ve been getting an error (505) when trying to update the Google App on my PH-1 today. I tried clearing the cache and data for the Google Play Store and Google Play Services, but still no luck. Is anyone else having this issue?
I thought it might just be me! Having the same issue here w/ my Pixel 2 XL running Pie. Tried clearing cache and data for Google Play Store, Play Services and the system app “Download Manager” and no dice either
I’m trying to install the latest update for Google search but keep getting error 505, I’ve got a sony xperia xz2 with latest android 9 update, I’ve tried clearing cache and date from google play store and I’ve uninstalled the google search updates but still getting error 505
So you can see complaints are getting the error code 505 for google play regardless of the device they are using. That’s because it’s not a device specific problem. It’s a Google Play issue that crops up while installing app updates sometimes. Currently, users of the Google search app are complaining, but you can get this error while installing updates for any other app.
So what’s the solution?
There’s at least one solution that has worked for many users so far, at least in case of the Google search app. It involves removing the app altogether from the device and then reinstalling it.
Solution was to go to the app page, delete the google app, then reinstall
That resolved the issue! Thanks!
In fact, last year, a Google employee also recommended something similar to fix this error code 505 android problem. Here’s what exactly they said:
Hi everyone. Thanks for reporting this in the Google Play forum. In order to fix Error -505 when trying to update an app from the Play Store, uninstall the specific app and re-download it from the Play Store.
To uninstall the app, please follow these steps:
1) Open the Play Store app
2] Go the “My Apps”
3) Find app in question, then open the Details page and select Uninstall
Note: If your devices has work (red briefcase icon) and private profile, please remember to uninstall the app from both profiles.
Please let us know if you still experience the issue after trying the steps listed above
So there you go. Now you know what to do in case you get the error code 505 for google play. Do try this workaround in case you are currently facing this problem, and let us know if the issue persists.
