When the October security update was released earlier this month, the change-log said it includes “Improved fast-charging behavior for Pixel devices.”

Unsurprisingly, majority mainstream tech media outlets confidently called the fast-charging problem on Google Pixel/Pixel XL phones fixed. However, what we are getting to see now is a slightly different picture.

Reports indicate the rapid/fast-charging issue hasn’t been put to rest completely, at least not for all those troubled. Complaints can be seen posted across Pixel User Community, Google’s own issue tracking website as well as Reddit.

Take a look at how some of the users word the problem on Pixel community as well as Issue Tracker:

It seems they’ve broke this completely. I can no longer charge with the factory charger at all. This only started after I installed the October Pie update

October’s security patch hasn’t fixed my charging issue. Had it charging overnight for 10 Hours it’s went up 15% . Google pixel 1 with official charger and usb c

I am also seeing this issue. I submitted a bug report through support yesterday. I should also add that I have 2 OEM chargers and cable that are not working. This started immediately after I installed the October update. Today I tried plugging the C to C cable in a laptop and it would not even recognize the phone. However USB to USB C works fine. I also tested the C to C cable and charger on another phone and they work fine as well

my pixel XL charges so slow compared to my old Nexus6… yes I got the october update… takes like 5 hours to charge the phone completely, to 80% maybe an hour and a half, without touching it, nexus6 did it in an hour or so, while playing…

even bought a brand new expensive USB-PD charger with a Type-C to C 3.1 cable, thick wires… nothing, tops I see in ampere is 1,600mA, and after a while it drops to 1200

Pixel XL recently (last night?) stopped charging rapidly. Only works with C to USB slow cable. System is up to date

Even some Pixel 2 users are also chiming similar issues.

October update meaningless… I plugged my Pixel 2 phone in at night with 7%, it was 11% in the morning… Quick call WITH it plugged in, and dropped to 10%. I’ve never owned an iPhone, but I am considering switching. Google, get your act together and have the curtousey to engage all your frustrated, loyal customers. You should be ashamed!!!

For its part, Google has apparently started looking into these complaints as the company is asking complaining users for bug reports. We hope the issue gets fixed sooner than later.
