Update (July 18):

Google has fixed whatever was causing the calling glitch.

Original story:

Google Home already has a sizeable list of broken functionalities that is currently being looked into by the company.

And now, a new issue has come to light which has also been officially acknowledged.

Basically, Google Home series devices are throwing errors like ‘Sorry, but calls aren’t supported right now‘, ‘Sorry I can’t make calls yet‘ or ‘Sorry, but I can’t connect you to your phone right now‘ when asked to make calls.

Within in past few hours, multiple users have reported – on the company’s official help forum (1,2,3,4) – Home devices’ failure to make calls.

Complainants say:

I can’t make calls from my home mini. I have an account, logged in, got a number us well and everything is connected, but it tells me it can’t make phone calls.

When I first received my Home Mini on the 25 of December 2017, it was able to flawlessly connect my calls to my contacts as well as my personal phone. As of right now, it is not able to make calls anymore, and it says “Sorry, but calls aren’t supported right now” or “Sorry, but I can’t connect you to your phone right now.”

I am facing a same issue here in UK when i try to call supermarket its saying I CAN’T MAKE CALLS YET is that only with my device or its a google issue?

Mine suddenly stopped working today and says the same exact error saying “I can’t make calls yet”. It was working perfectly fine yesterday.

Complainants have even highlighted the issue on micro-blogging site Twitter and online discussion platform Reddit as well.

Anyone having trouble calling? from googlehome

Not only users, Google’s Top contributors (on Google Home Help forum) have also confirmed similar issues.

Its not working for me or any of the other TCs. I will escalate this issue.

Although there’s no confirmation yet, the latest Google Home update that started rolling out just yesterday seems to be the culprit here, as reports began pouring in after the update arrived.

Official words

As already mentioned in the beginning, what’s good is that Google is currently looking into the matter. The confirmation came from their official Twitter account while reverting back to a complainant, and here’s what the said:

We’re aware of the issue and actively working on a fix.

While the company is investigating, there’s no information as to how long will it take to fix whatever’s causing the call-related issue on Home devices. We hope the problem gets diagnosed as well as fixed sooner than later. Rest assured, we’ll update as and when that happens.
