Sharing and editing broken for YouTube videos set to Private
Not everyone is fond of keeping their YouTube videos’ privacy settings to public, for some prefer to share them with limit audiences only.
For this purpose, YouTube allows users to limit the viewing access by setting a videos’s privacy to Private (instead of Public), and share with select persons by emailing them.
But, it’s not working
Since June end, the functionality to share private videos has reportedly gone out of order. Instead, users get to see the “Sharing information is not available” notification right next to the greyed out Share option (as can be seen in the following user shared image).
Some of the complainants say:
I have a number of ‘private videos’ that my members need access to. I used to upload the video as private and then share with their email addresses.Now, when I try and add new email addresses to share my videos with, it says ‘sharing information is not available’ and the share button is grayed out.
I have tried re-uploading a video and I am able to share this with members but as soon as I leave that video and return to it – the function has disappeared again. This also means that I cannot remove any email addresses for people that have not renewed their subscription.
I’m trying to share my own private video with people via email and it says ‘sharing information is not available’ when I click private. Is there a reason why this is no longer an option or are youtube aware of the issue?
I am also getting this same message when trying to share my Private live stream. I haven’t found any solutions yet, but I’m still searching around….
I have a youtube channel with some private videos on it that I have created for my friends.
I just wanted to added three more friends to a video, so they can view it..and to all of my videos now it says sharing information is not available and I cant edit the video and add new email addresses for access.
That’s not all
While majority users are complaining about the video sharing issue, some also mention that editing a video (set to Private) in the Creator Studio is also throwing 500 internal server error (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11).
I am unable to edit the information on any of my private videos, which means I am unable to share them through email. I am getting the following (500 Internal Server) error message.
I just uploaded a couple of videos and set them to “private”. But I can’t edit them. When I press the “edit” button I get the “Error 500”-message. Why is that? Other (public) videos that I have upload a long time ago don’t give me the error message.
So, both video sharing and editing issues appear connected.
While YouTube is yet to give an official confirmation, one of the Top contributors on the official YouTube help forum have acknowledged the issue.
Yes its a known issue. YouTube engineers are trying to fix it.
But, there’s no information as to how long will the company take to mend the problem. Hope they do it soon. Rest assured, we’ll update as and when that happens.
