What would be the official name of upcoming Android version? This is the question that gains momentum every year as Q3 nears, and 2018 is no exception.

No points for guessing the name would begin with ‘P’ – in fact that’s what we’ve been calling the version until now (Android P).

A lot of names have been rumored so far, including Pancake, Praline, and Peppermint. However, there were no credible sources to back these names.

Then came a report from Bloomberg back in February this year, claiming that Android 9 is being internally referred to as Pistachio Ice Cream.

However, there was a rider that the final, official name could well be different. Nothing is still confirmed, but a new development is lending more weight to ‘Pistachio’ rumors.

A Huawei Poland customer care executive has used the term ‘Android Pistachio’ while interacting with a customer who was asking about the Chinese company’s Oreo update plans. Take a look:

While it’s very much possible that Huawei staff knows what the next Android version will be called, you can’t ignore the fact that customer support executives are ill informed many times. It could also be possible that the service rep was just using a rumored name.

Officially, Google hasn’t yet confirmed anything, and there’s no point in expecting that to happen until next month, when the search giant should be unveiling the name as well as publicly releasing the new Android OS.

As of now, Android P is in developer preview stage, with the company releasing beta 3 version just last week. To know what all changes are included in the latest release, head here.
