Good news for Pixel 2 users!

Camera Error: The camera device encountered a fatal error‘, an issue long known and troubling Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users, has finally been officially accepted. Following is what the company has said:

We’re aware of this issue and are looking into it

Story till date

For a quick refresher, the problem was first reported back in October (last year). And considering a very large number of complaints, we highlighted the matter in our first coverage back in November.

Basically, Pixel 2 and 2 XL users reported the camera app crashed every time they opened it (throwing an error notification displayed in the following user shared image), rendering the device’s camera useless.

Cut to a few months later, we came up with a follow-up story about Google offering replacements to those encountering fatal camera errors/crashes on their Pixel 2 units.

Seemingly, even RMAs were not much of help, as users never stopped complaining. In fact, they continue to do so till date, as can be seen in some of the recent tweets:

Official words

After all these months of silence, Google has finally spoken up and addressed the matter in question. While reverting back to one of complainants on Twitter, they said they are not only aware of the issue, but also working to the fix the same.

While this must bring at least some relief to those affected, there’s no information as to how long will the company take to fix up whatever is causing these fatal errors/camera crashes. We hope it gets done soon. Rest assured, we’ll let you know as and when that occurs, for we are keeping an active tab on all related developments.

PiunikaWeb is a unique initiative that focuses on investigative journalism. This means we do a lot of hard work to come up with news stories that are either ‘exclusive’ or ‘breaking’ in nature. Perhaps that’s the reason our work has been picked by the likes of Forbes, Engadget, The Verge, Macrumors, and more. Do take a tour of our website to get a feel of our work.
