Update (March 21):

At least a couple of users have confirmed that a recent update (G892USQS1ARC1) has fixed the issue for them.

Original story:

Another week, another update-triggered derailed functionality. This time, Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is the device in question, with video playback in Netflix and Hulu gone all green. Yes, that’s what users reportedly get to see – a green screen with audio, but no video.

Are you also facing the same issue on your S8 Active unit? Ease out, as Samsung’s aware and doing the needful to fix the glitch. With users complaining for more than a week now, Samsung confirmed the issue on the company’s official help forum late last week. One of the Samsung Moderators acknowledged the issue saying:

We’ve been looking into this. It appears that it was a Sprint’s specific update that was sent out that caused this problem. Samsung is working with Google and Sprint to get this fixed as soon as possible.

While the problem appears specific to units on Sprint network (as can be seen in the official statement above), the carrier – for its part – is yet to confirm the problem officially. However, a couple of affected users who got to hear from Sprint and Netflix shared that the issue is at Samsung’s end.

Yes! Same issue. According to Sprint, it’s some issue with Samsung and Netflix and Hulu’s services but no one has any idea when it will be fixed which is ridiculous because this isn’t the first time this has happened.

I spoke extensively to Netflix today trying to resolve this, and they ultimately said it is Samsung’s problem and we all just have to wait

Though, currently there’s lack of clarity on who is to be blamed, we hope the issue gets fixed soon. Rest assured, we are keeping a tab on all related developments and will update the story as and when anything news worthy comes up.

Problem details

For those of you who wish to gain more clarity on the matter, the following selection of user comments and recent tweets will give you a better picture:

After the phone ask for an update 03/01/18 my phone wont let me see Hulu or Netflix, every video a play i only see a green screen and audio.

Netflix crashes or does not play or just stays at the loading screen, every once in a while I will hear audio and/or see a green blocky screen

Video playback in Netflix and Hulu is green and blocky, but with good sound. This started happening after the most recent Android update.

It’s also worth mentioning that the issue appears to be more widespread – some users report of encountering the same on other Android devices as well.
