Update (March 24):

At least a couple of users have confirmed that the Clock app’s latest version (20.2.A.1.18) has fixed the issue for them. So, those of you still facing the alarms glitch, kindly update to check if the problem’s resolved for you as well.

Original Story:

It was the end of October 2017 when Xperia XZ1 Compact users started reporting that alarms were no longer ringing on their devices. And by December, Xperia X Performance, XZ, and XZs users also started complaining the same. What’s relieving is that the problem has now been officially acknowledged by Sony, and will be fixed in a future software release.

Over at Sony’s official help forum, Jonas from Sony Xperia Support recently acknowledged the issue on multiple threads discussing the ‘alarms not ringing’ problem on different Xperia devices. They mentioned that Xperia units running software version 47.1.A.12.34 or earlier (on Android 8) are the ones affected, and also added that the issue will be fixed in a later update.

You might experience that your recurring alarm sometimes does not ring. This is a known behaviour that will be corrected in a later software release.

Furthermore, they also suggested a couple of workarounds till the problem gets resolved:

Disable your recurring alarm and enable it again every time you want to set the alarm, for instance, every night

Set a couple of alarms with some minutes in between, for instance, 7:00 AM and 7:05 AM

For those who aren’t aware, Xperia users with Clock app version 20.2.A.1.14 installed on their units have been reporting that after upgrading to Oreo, alarms are intermittently not functioning on their units. Some users also mention that on checking they find the alarm has been snoozed (as can be seen in the following user-shared image).

Here are some of the user comments explaining the problem in question:

After Update to android oreo alarm does not work. When the time comes for it to work, simply nothing happen – there is no sound, no vibration, no signs of his work

I have the same problem after updating to Oreo. It looks like if I “wake the phone up” before the alarm should go off, it works. But otherwise it just does nothing. And of course is happens intermittently

It has been several times I discovered the alarm clock doesn’t ring. It is still happens randomly with the latest version of firmware. The alarm volume was set to maximum, the do not disturb mode was not on, but it just doesn’t ring. The screen won’t even turn up.it with start to ring only when I turn on the screen afterwards, while the screen will also be displaying swipe to dismiss too.

As already mentioned above, Sony has officially acknowledged the aforementioned recurring alarms glitch, and will be fixing it in a future software update, which we hope starts rolling out soon. Meanwhile, we’ll update as and when any progress takes place. So keep a tab here.

Note: The problem could be related to Android 8.0 itself – see here.
