Update (December 19):

The fix has started rolling. According to reports, the roll out is currently restricted to Canadian Gear S3 users only. Hopefully it will arrive in other markets soon.

Original story below:

Recently, there were reports that the Tizen 3.0 update has introduced battery drainage issues in the Samsung Gear S3. Well, the South Korean company has officially acknowledged the problem. The confirmation came a few hours ago in the form of a post from a Samsung moderator on the tech giant’s official forum.

The moderator revealed the an update is being prepared to fix the problem. Here’s what they exactly said:

I know that they are working on an update that will fix this but I don’t think it’s quite out yet

Sadly, there’s no information on when the update in question will be rolled out.

Just to give you some quick background, Gear S3 users have been complaining on the thread (where the moderator posted this replay) as well as other similar threads that after a recent update, an error saying “Gear S Plugin has stopped” frequently pops up.

This results in a phone freeze every time the notification appears. Plus, connection between the phone and the wearable drops frequently. Those affected say likely because of all this erroneous behavior, the battery on both phone as well as watch drains very quickly.

For now, it’s a relief that at least the issue is officially acknowledged and an update is being prepared to fix it.
