Update 03/04/25 – 04:49 pm (IST): Google has brought back weather radar map in the app. A user, CPGK17, posted about its return on Reddit and I can also confirm the same on a Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a.
Original article published on March 31, 2025, follows:
Pixel phone owners are noticing something odd about their weather app in the past few days. A rather useful feature, the weather radar map, seems to have vanished into thin air. Users started reporting the disappearance around Friday, March 28.
The feature in question was a handy little map card within the Pixel Weather app. It displayed a 6-hour precipitation forecast, giving folks a visual heads-up on incoming rain or snow. This wasn’t just a static image either; you could tap the card to get a fullscreen view complete with a timeline and a play/pause button to see the weather system’s movement. Google noted this map was available in the US, UK, and most EU countries, powered by the same technology behind their Nowcast predictions. Even if clear skies were forecasted, the map card was usually still present.
Now, it’s simply gone. As first spotted by the team at 9to5Google, the weather map card is missing entirely from the app’s city view, regardless of the current weather conditions. I couldn’t see it on a Pixel 8 and Pixel 7a. So it seems this removal affects all Pixel phones and tablets, suggesting it might be a server-side change pushed by Google.
The reaction online has been one of confusion and frustration. On Reddit, user GreyFoxSolid kicked off a discussion asking, “Google Weather app radar is gone. Anyone else?” The responses quickly confirmed it wasn’t an isolated issue. User TWNT7 highlighted the poor timing, commenting, “Gone here too. Especially convenient considering we’re under an advisory for an incoming ice storm.” Another user, kb_more, expressed a common sentiment: “Gone, pretty bad decision if this isn’t a bug.” For some, it was a frequently used tool, with freeskatt asking, “Why’d they remove it? It’s the most convenient thing that i use everyday”.
All the other familiar components of the Pixel Weather app remain, including the AI-generated report, hourly and 10-day forecasts, wind speed, UV index, and air quality information. Only the radar map has disappeared.
So far, Google hasn’t offered any explanation for the removal. Was it an intentional decision, or is this just a temporary glitch? Without any official word, Pixel users are left wondering why a helpful, visual weather tool was quietly pulled from the app.
