Update (June 15):

Samsung Messages v4.4.30.5 finally brings back the individual text message notifications. The update can be downloaded from APKMirror.

Original story:

Finally, things seem to have started moving in a positive direction for Samsung smartphone users who have been massively putting forward their disappointment over losing individual contact text message ringtones after installing Android Oreo. User demand has now struck a chord with Samsung as the company has decided to bring back the currently missing feature in a future update.

We highlighted the matter back in April, and since then have been actively tracking and updating all related developments. And now we have at hand the news that users have been looking for.

From may to will…

All this while, Samsung moderators on the company’s official European help forum have just been offering positive hope to the complainants. But yesterday, one of the moderators confirmed that a future update ‘will’ bring back the ability to customize text message ringtones (no specific time frame given though).

Here’s what they actually said:

As a direct result of the feedback you guys have given here, the individual contact text message ringtone feature will be returning in a future update!

We’re unable to give a timescale for this, but definitely look out for it in future software updates coming your way.

Kudos to users who did not settle for what Samsung did, and managed to convince the company to bring the feature back. We hope the promised update gets live soon. Rest assured we’ll let you know as and when that happens.
