Whenever a flagship smartphone is released, app developers, accessory makers, and manufacturers of other lifestyle products quickly make sure their offerings are compatible with the new phone. But sometimes, this doesn’t happen.

Case in point: Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ and Fitbit wearables. Yes, the latest Samsung flagships still aren’t in the list of smartphones that are compatible with Fitbit wearables. Don’t believe this? Just try searching for Galaxy S9 or S9+ in the list of smartphones here.

Yeah, none of the two is present there. And the worse part is, there has apparently been no formal announcement about this situation from either company. However, we have managed to dig out statements from Fitbit staff that makes it pretty much official that their wearables aren’t compatible with Galaxy S9 series phones.

Here’s the company’s official Twitter support account confirming this:

And here’s a moderator on the company’s official forums confirming this:

Hi everyone. Thank you for your comments regarding the issue with notifications not working with Galaxy S9+. At the moment, there is no timeframe of when this phone is going to be listed as compatible. So far the only word I have received, is that our team is been testing the Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ to guarantee all features will perform as are intended.

As you can see, the statement makes it clear that Fitbit is currently testing their wearables with Galaxy S9/S9+ (something which they have been saying since March), but they are not able to provide any definitive time-frame as to when the missing compatibility will arrive.

Meanwhile, a single thread on Fitbit forums (see here) should give you an idea on how users (with both Galaxy S9/S9+ and a Fitbit wearable) are feeling about all this.

We hope these devices become compatible sooner than latter, and the matter is laid to rest once and for all. If you are one of the affected users, rest assured, we’re keeping a close watch on the matter, and will provide an update as and when the compatibility arrives.
