The Community Manager recently updated the relevant thread saying:

Just wanted to let you all know that we are still investigating these reports and are waiting for an update to share with you.

Update (April 09):

Samsung is now telling the complainants that the problem lies in their SD card, not the device.

Update (March 27): More reports.

Original Story:

We know we have already highlighted a lot of major issues plaguing Samsung’s latest flagships including call drops, touch screen glitches, Premium Care enrollment limitations and many more. But this doesn’t help the fact that there’s yet another concerning issue, and it’s related to SD cards.

Basically, Galaxy S9+ users have been chiming on the company’s official European help forum about SD card’s read write error which keeps showing randomly.

Going by reports, a message stating SD card has been made the default storage shows up on accessing the device’s camera (left image). Further, some users have also mentioned that an SD card readwrite error notification shows up in the handset’s notification center (right image).

It’s difficult to say whether or not the message and the error are connected in anyway, but at least a few of those affected say they can’t transfer files from the SD card to their phone’s internal memory. Even formatting the card doesn’t help, as the error shows up again after some time. Also, the issue happens with both Samsung and third-party cards.

A quick look at the following user comments will give you a better idea of the matter being discussed:

Is any one else having SD card error on the S9 or S9+ I have a 128gb sandisk and 128gb Samsung and both I have the same issue it starts happening when I used the camera I get a message saying it detected an SD card and is now using it for storage or something along they lines now I have a rewrite issue it goes away if I restart my phone but it came back again sometime later

I am also having the same problem i cannot transfer my files to the phone memory either this is annoying ?

Having the same issue. SD card read error keeps popping up but I can still take pictures to it and access files on it. Idk what the problem is.. Might have to reformat the card but that would include removing everything from it, reformat, and put it back. Tired of delaying the error every 2 hours. Cmon Samsung.

I have an unlocked S9+ and am having same issue. I have a 128gb sandisk class 10 card. I moved it over from my s7. Everything shows up and I’m able to save to it. I just randomly get the error message.

When i try to move data from sd card to phone memory on s9+ so that I can reformat the memory card it fails to move all my data.

Thankfully, A Samsung forum Community Manager addressed the matter recently saying,

We are investigating this here at Samsung and would appreciate your support to understand this better.

While it’s relieving that the company is looking into the matter, we can’t comment on how long will they take to figure out the root cause and fix it. We hope they do it sooner than later. Like always, we are keeping a watch and will update as and when anything news-worthy shows up.
