Update (January 02):

The company has confirmed battery issues on multiple other devices as well including Redmi Note 4X and Note 4 Qualcomm.

Original story:

Of late, Xiaomi’s first Android One smartphone Mi A1 grabbed a lot of bad press after its Android Oreo roll out was suspended multiple times. Now that a significant number of Mi A1 users have the update, two major issues have come to light (battery drainage and fingerprint scanning lag), and both have been acknowledged by the Chinese company.

This morning, the Oreo-triggered battery drainage issue – both on the Global as well as China stable ROM – got confirmation from one of the members of MIUI Bug Hunter Team on the company’s official help forum. Here’s what they exactly said:

This issue has been reported already and developers are working to solve this issue.
This issue will be rectified soon so kindly stay tuned.

To give you a quick refresher, soon after Oreo showed up on Mi A1, complains about poor battery performance started pouring on the official Mi forum, XDA and Reddit. Even micro-blogging site Twitter is also drenched with similar reports.

Not only the battery problem, the company has also confirmed another Oreo introduced issue, viz. the fingerprint lag on Mi A1 devices (running Global stable ROM). Here’s what the same member from the MIUI Bug Hunter Team said:

Thanks for reporting this issue to us, we will forward this issue to the concerned team.
This issue will be rectified soon. Till then please be patient

While it’s relieving that the company is working on fixing both the battery and fingerprint problems, there’s no known time line as to how long will it take. We hope Xiaomi fixes both the glitches sooner than later. Meanwhile, we are keeping a watch on all related developments, so keep a tab here for relevant updates as and when they occur.
