Ability to set reminders through Chrome is still broken, Google confirms [Update: Fixed]

Google has fixed the reminders glitch on Chrome . Here’s what Andy B, Search & Assistant Community Manager said while updating those affected:

Google has caught hold on the actual cause of the reminders glitch on Chrome, and is hoping to fix it shortly. Unfortunately, there is currently no specific timeline on when the fix will arrive, but hopefully that will happen sooner than later.

Using technology to cut down the limitations of human memory is a part of everyday comfort now. Same is the reason for which we set up reminders. It’s better to be prompted, than forgetting things. Isn’t it? But on Chrome, setting up reminders goes inoperative, leaving users frustrated.

For those of you unaccustomed, on typing ‘set a reminder’ or ‘reminder’ or ‘remind me to’ in the search box on Chrome, a new reminder box shows up, using which reminders can be scheduled.

But, for quite some time users have been reporting that the reminder box doesn’t show up, and all you get to see is only the search results (as can be seen in the following screenshot).

The problem is not afresh, as ‘set a reminder’ feature had gone out of order earlier too, but was taken care of. Was it really? The issue was originally reported back in August on Google Search and Assistant help forum. With respect to the escalating number of reported use-cases, Google addressed the affected users on August 31.

Here’s what Andy B, Search & Assistant Community Manager, said

I wanted to confirm this is a known issue that we are actively investigating

On September 2, he further added

There’s no set timeline for a fix and no updates for now, but I’ll continue to post here as soon as there’s more information to share

Google called the issue fixed on September 8, and said

Great news! I can confirm this issue should now be fixed for all users

But looks like it wasn’t. Reason being, users continue complaining about the feature broken till date. Guess either it wasn’t fixed for all or wasn’t fixed to the core. With more complaints pouring in, Google re-addressed the problem on October 4 and said

Apologies that this issue is occurring again, and thanks for bringing it to our attention. The team is aware and is currently investigating and working on a fix

While most of the reports are regarding reminder glitch for Chrome on desktop, some are facing the same for Chrome on phone as well. We can also confirm reminder’s not working on Chrome, both on Windows as well as phone (Android and iOS) in our case.

Clearly, the reminders glitch on Chrome is an issue that the company is working on. But how long will it take to cure the problem to it’s core, that cannot be commented on.
