YouTube’s ‘Import your videos from Google Photos‘ feature is broken, company’s aware
YouTube Editor’s unfinished business of video processing is an issue long known. Aside from that, another processing trouble is being reported lately, and it is with videos uploaded to YouTube through Google Photos.
The problem rears its ugly head while uploading videos to YouTube by using ‘Import your videos from Google Photos‘ option under ‘Upload‘ icon on the right upper corner in the Web client. Observations vary from one group of users to another, with some stating that the video gets stuck at ‘0% processing‘ (as can be seen in the following screenshot), while others reporting seeing ‘preparing uploads‘ message.
The issue in question is reported by YouTube brand account holders. It’s worth mentioning that uploading the same video from main account works fine. Also, the problem is reported only with videos imported from Google Photos, as the ones uploaded directly to YouTube work fine.
The problem is being reported by users since June 2017, both on the official YouTube as well as Google Photos forums. It eventually got acknowledged by an expert on YouTube help forum on August 28, who mentioned that
The issue may be because it’s a Brand Account. I can reproduce this too. I’ll pass on the reports to YouTube
The expert further added on July 3 that,
YouTube is aware of this issue, but I don’t know when there may be a fix
And repeated the same occasionally (see here)
It’s clear from the expert comments that Google is aware of the Google photos to YouTube video import issue, but has not officially acknowledged it yet. Also not known is whether or not the company is working on it. In case you are also troubled by the issue, keep a tab here as we’ll keep you updated of all related developments.
PS: Affected users speculate that the processing glitch could be due to brand account trying to set up its own Google Photos account.
