Is Google even working on fixing creation date problem of uploads?
Is Google Photos’ metadata feature which automatically stores creation date and time of original uploads bugged? Reason being, many users have reported that the app is showing different date and time of uploaded videos, as compared to the originals.
This problem dates back to December, 2015 when it was reported for the first time. On January 26, 2016 this video date bug was addressed by Google Photos Community Manager as he mentioned
“This is a known issue, and our team is actively investigating what’s going on”.
Thereafter, on February 6, 2016 he added that
“Unfortunately, I don’t have more information to share regarding a timeline for a fix. However, do know that we are still looking into this issue”.
Users are left with manually editing dates for their uploaded videos, as it’s the only suggested workaround. The problem isn’t limited to videos it seems, as there’s a dedicated thread on official Photos forums that discusses similar issue with images.
Despite acknowledging the problem (for videos, at-least), Google has not fixed the issue yet, as it still being reported. If this metadata functionality has been bothering you as well, the wait might be long.
Meanwhile, one of the users has created a script to fix the problem (head to the Script Workaround link below). We are not sure how well it works, as we haven’t tested it yet. But that shouldn’t deter you from trying it out – who knows, it might work for you.
